When Pursuing SEO, Don't Lose Sight of Content

Bloggers and companies alike want their content to be at the top of online search results. Ranking high on online search results means more traffic and, in turn, greater sales and revenues. Because of this, Search Engine Optimization - simply referred to as SEO - is a huge industry. 

SEO companies and SEO consultants offer strategies to get your website to the top of search results on Google and other search engines. It is completely fine to avail of these services; there are credible SEO companies and SEO consultants who have helped several clients succeed.

The problem is when you begin to make SEO your main focus and you lose sight of the importance of creating good content. Of course, SEO and great content are not mutually exclusive. But, nowadays, with more emphasis given on SEO, the push for good content seems to have taken the back seat.

Prioritize Content Over SEO

Bloggers and copywriters begin to focus on such techniques as "keyword stuffing" and backlinking more than the goal of effectively communicating with their target audience. It is important to begin prioritizing content over SEO. So it all boils down to content - articles that add value to the lives of users. The question you need to ask then is not, "How can I get this article to the top of the search results." Instead, you ask yourself, "How can I enrich my reader\"s knowledge with this article?"

Investing in SEO is a reasonable decision. But, again, you should not spend the majority of your resources - time, money, and energy - on SEO. You may want to see how social media or email marketing, for instance, can help you connect with your target audience. 

When you reach your first users and they enjoy your content, a snowball effect will soon follow. When you have users who gain great knowledge and experience from your content or website, they are likely to share it with friends.
