Jimmy Greaves's Wife Decried Late MBE For Her Husband


Legendary English football star Jimmy Greaves has passed away at the age of 81. His passing came eight months after his wife Irene's explosive interview with the Daily Mail.

Irene lamented the late MBE recognition given to her husband, regarded as the greatest goalscorer in British football history. She said:

"Now he's 80, he's had a devastating stroke and they're finally doing something about it."

She said the recognition was 20 years "too late and it's not a very good honor." Irene went on to say that the 1966 World Cup winner was more than the MBE recognition.

An MBE is the third highest-ranking Order of the British Empire award. Singer Ed Sheeran was awarded an MBE medal at Buckingham Palace in 2017.

During his illustrious career, Greaves represented AC Milan, Chelsea, and West Ham.

Although it came late, Irene recalled the recognition left Greaves in tears. He was so happy that he had his first alcohol since 1978 to celebrate.
